Nifty November

Another month in Florida passed and it was full of more exciting experiences and not so exciting long days at work. Looking back on this whole program I’m very happy to have been placed at the Electric Umbrella, even though I work in the kitchen I get to work with a great group of CP’s. After Halloween Disney doesn’t waist anytime switching over to Christmas so we were able to watch the first lighting of the Cinderella Castle, lit up by Elsa in a Frozen castle show.

I went to my first NBA game, Orlando Magic vs. Sacramento Kings with Axel and Nick and Orlando won, with a surprisingly exciting game.

I got to go to Night of Stars the Disney College Program talent show and it was one of the best talent shows I’ve ever seen we should’ve have had to pay for it it was that good!

img_1415IMG_1235.JPGimg_1237

We celebrated Christmas early at Mickey Very Merry Christmas Party and got to meet some rare characters, get Christmas treats and watched the special firework/parade shows.

Because we have so many CP’s at the Electric Umbrella we get to do some private backstage tours of rides, we did the Haunted Mansion and The Great Movie Ride. We were able to walk through the whole ride and backstage to see where the cast members go and make the magic work.

My roommates and I went to the beach for the first time since being in Florida, you’d think we’d be able to go to the beach more since we do live here but Orlando is actually really inconvenient and a couple hours away from every beach. We decided to go to Clearwater Beach and it was beautiful, soft sand, warmer water than WA, and we got some great photos!

IMG_1894.JPGIMG_1952.JPGIMG_2055.JPGIMG_2111.JPGIMG_2329.JPGIMG_2416.JPG

Thanksgiving came around and of course I worked all day but we got to celebrate a day early and have our own friendsgiving.

October in Orlando

Looking back on October it flew by but a lot of great things happened. I had a room to myself for the whole month because a roommate moved out and it was amazing. Kaitlyn and I spent one morning meeting characters in Magic Kingdom…

including PRINCESS JASMINE! Then Megan and I went to animal kingdom and rode Everest about 6 times during and after sunset. We then had the bright idea to go work out and go for a swim… thats the one and only time we’ve worked out lol.

Hurricane Matthew then started to become a reality and coming towards Florida and good thing Matthew Miller was coming to Florida the same day to keep me safe. The parks were closing early that day so we headed over to Hollywood Studios and got a few hours in and were able to meet Chewy and Kilo, experience every ride and take some great photos.

The rain then started to come and Orlando turned into a ghost town, we headed back to the hotel with all of our food and water, charged all of our electronics preparing for the worst and hunkering down. Thankfully we slept through it all and Hurricane Matthew took an unpredicted course away from central Florida. We were still on lockdown for the wind and bands still passing through so we had to chill and I loved having quality time with me Dad, making me miss WA even more. The curfew was lifted and we went over to UNO pizzeria with deep dish Chicago style. Then we went over to Disney Springs and shopped around and saw a movie… despite the parks being closed and things not going as planned it was such an amazing visit from my Dad and I wouldn’t have changed it one bit.

img_0619

Food and Wine Festival has been going on in Epcot and Kaitlyn and I went around the world on the hunt for Remy for Ratatouille in all of the stores then you put a sticker down when you find him and at the end you turn in your map for a limited edition Remy pin!

We also got to pick a pearl in Japan and they did a little drum ceremony and cut open your oyster, Kaitlyn got a HUGE white pearl and I got one of the rarest silver pearls, she said only 5 people have gotten it!

img_0705

That night another special person came to visit me and I couldn’t have been more excited!

What a week when Alex was here, we went to every park, rode all the rides, went to Universal and did both parks, ate so much good food and got some solid pictures! Some days we were so tired from waking up every day at 6/7 that we felt like old people just sitting on a bench taking it all in, but overall what a great first vacation together. I enjoy showing everyone where I work, live and spend my days off in this magical place.

Down here we tend to celebrate each holiday early because we get discounts a month before and tend to work on the actually day like Halloween. So my roommates and I all got pumpkins and painted them while watching some spooky cartoons and getting in the hallospirit. I decided to go with an UP theme, Kaitlyn Tangled and Megan Nemo.

Typhoon Lagoon is the other Disney water park down here and is open throughout the “Fall/Winter” because it’s pretty much 70-80 degrees down here during these months. So Megan and I headed over there and experienced the most epic wave pool of our lives, went down some slides and had some bomb mini donuts.

Later that day I wen to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios with my co-workers then we went to Universal the next day!

Overall October in Orlando was very eventful and full of long days at work that make time go by too fast but these days off make everything worth it, making friendship with people from around the world and continuing to love my roommates… for real 😉

Sunny September

The time down here is already going by so fast, I can’t believe it’s almost October! This month has been full of days at the park, long hours at work, pool time, birthdays, and celebrating Halloween with Mickey.

Let’s start with work, it’s becoming easier as time goes on and you get into the swing of things as is any job. I completed my front of house training and now I interact with guests, bus tables, and work the register (my favorite). Some amazing moments I’ve already had with guest have happened lately, for example a women asked if I could write down my name on her ticket so she could remember me and send some feedback of how great I was to my managers. The fact that she went out of her way to make my day 10 times better only happens at magical places like Disney. I also received a 4 keys card for handling a rush that came in while training and picked up the tasks pretty quickly while my trainer was off doing another job to help.Overall I don’t mind going to work, my co-workers are awesome and I love getting paid so I try to get as many hours as possible.

It’s a small world folks that’s for sure, my moms friends back in WA have daughters who live down here in Tampa and so we got in contact and  I met up with Sammy, she drove from Tampa to come to the parks with me. It was a perfect day and we got along great (ya never know) but seriously we rode all of the good rides, got magical moments including free slushies, pretzels, and popcorn! Saw the fireworks, parade, and got some great pictures!

But the magical moments don’t stop there, when Megan and I went to HS (Hollywood Studios) while watching the awesome star wars firework show Starbucks gave Megan a free blueberry scone!

Epcot Food & Wine Festival is now in full swing and brings more people to Epcot this time of year (where I work) so we’ve been getting a little more busy. Megan and I decided to go check it out.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We also rode the Frozen ride that usually has a really long wait but we were able to get a fastpass, the que line for it is really cute and the ride was surprisingly very very good, I wanted to do it over and over again (video coming soon). When it comes to the food and drinks at the festival we tried the bubble tea because usually I love it but I wouldn’t recommend it lol. It was a mango black tea with tapioca and no flavor! We did find some great food though, in Italy a chicken cheese ziti dish and Morocco a Kefta pita pocket with beef and a seasoned slaw it was bomb.

Kaitlyn’s boo thang came down and visited Florida for a couple days, and Megan helped him out with an idea to ask her to be his girlfriend! How exciting what better place? So Megan and I then followed them to the park without her knowledge and found them in the CRAZY CROWD during the fireworks and I captured the moment on my camera with video and pictures, it was adorable and Kaitlyn was on cloud 9. We then rode MINETRAIN for my first time and it was really cool and the ride was great just a tad to short.

Our Disney college classes started down here as well, I’m taking a Marketing & Sales Seminar and it’s SUPER interesting to see all of Disney’s departments and strategies. We also had to come up with an innovative idea to implement at the parks, mine goes along with the magic bands here that have your ticket and fastpasses on them linked up through the app. But you can link your credit card ONLY if staying at a Disney resort so my idea was for everyone to have the chance to link it, they can manage how much money they put on the band through the app for safety and also enter in a pin at the scanning stations. It’s nice to have to dress up every week for class, I even wore a sweater… a sweater in FLORIDA!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEGAN!!! That’s right Megan turned 20 down here in Disney World. Kaitlyn and I went to the store late after I got off work and got some of Megan’s favorite Finding Nemo/Dory decorations.

We also took advantage of my newest purchase… A PRETZEL FLOATY! I love it, perfect for three little salt crystals IMG_9943.JPG

or just one!

IMG_9933.JPG

We got all dressed up and headed to Magic Kingdom for our reservations at the Crystal Palace buffet and character meet. It did take longer than anticipated to arrive because there was an abundance of people and the monorail was down so we had to take the ferry. BUT we made it and got some great pictures, ate some great food (bomb salmon), met our favorites from the hundred acre woods, and overall celebrated Megan and her big day!

MICKEY NOT SO SCARY HALLOWEEN PARTY!!! I’ve never been to this event before but it was totally worth buying a ticket, everyone is so dressed up in creative costumes, there’s candy stations, exclusive character meet and greets, halloween music and lighting, the Boo To You Halloween Parade, Hallowishes Firework show, and the Hocus Pocus castle show featuring villains!

I Disney bounded as Pascal and Caroline was Rapunzel!

Tiana though I was a frog and Rapunzel played hide n’ seek with me, but I also met Jafar and Lots-o!

Florida Florida Florida

First off if you’re reading this I probably miss you very much, thank you for taking your time to keep up with my internship and life down here in Florida. I miss Washington, the fresh air, the waterfront, family, friends, pets, Bellingham, and just the familiarity of being home. But I wouldn’t trade this opportunity for anything I am having so much fun, learning many skills, and being as independent as ever!

It’s pretty cool that I get to work in Epcot and I went there about a week ago for the first time since 5th grade!

P8210721.JPG

The world showcase is so awesome with all the different places you can visit all in one park! We met Belle and she had the weirdest voice and kept talking about her dads inventions and us bringing a project to the fair… quite odd.

P8210731.JPG

We also ventured to Blizzard Beach, one of Disney’s water parks where my roommate Megan works! We went down the 3rd tallest slide in the world and went in the epic wave pool as well as other slides that were great!!

G0240349.JPG

It’s themed as if a blizzard hit Florida then all the snow melted and there’s a water parks so you ride this ski lift up to the tallest slide!

Overall a great experience for my first time at a Disney water park and I would recommend it for a one day adventure!

I work a lot lately, usually 6 days a week but I’ve really come to know and love my co-workers, the work gets better a I get the hang of it but it’s still not something I enjoy. I’m not sure if anyone like cooking fries or hamburgers  then deep cleaning everything at night but someones gotta do it.

I did have a great day off this past Sunday when Caroline and I went to Ohana for breakfast, Ohana is character dining at the Disney Polynesian hotel and resort, we got a buffet style meal and got to meet Mickey, Lilo, Stitch, and Pluto!

P8280855.JPGP8280867.JPG
P8280874.JPGP8280893.JPG

Afterwards I went shopping and to the parks by myself, watched shows and met characters!!

There’s a tropical storm hitting Orlando and a Hurricane hitting other parts of Florida so there’s been a lot of unpredictable rain down here… you’d think Florida would be prepared as this is probably a yearly occurrence but it floods so quickly down here and there’s huge puddles everywhere! Not to mention the fact that its still 80-90 degrees here and wearing a rain jacket would cause me to sweat MORE than my typical day. So sorry Washingtonians I might have to invest in a poncho, I’ll leave you with that.

The Electric Umbrella

This past week has consisted of training at the Electric Umbrella Quick Food Service Restaurant in Epcot. I’ve worked the past four days from 2-10:30pm each day in a hot kitchen being trained how to cook hamburgers, pizza, fry fries and chicken strips, make salads, and lastly my favorite… I close every night and we get to deep clean whichever machine/area we worked on that day using degreaser and scrubbing until it’s crystal clean. I guess I was hoping I wouldn’t be put behind the counter and in a hot kitchen while working for Disney but I’m hopeful I’ll be able to get trained in the front of house and work with people in the coming months. Oh my I almost forgot I get to wear these awesome long black pants, non-slip shoes, a flattering red shirt, and my new favorite hat!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My dad said I look like a boy

Today I finally had a day off and went to the pool, but tomorrow I’m back to work. I’ll be working 5-6 days a week getting 40 or more hours. It’s going to be a lifestyle change before and I hope it all starts becoming something I look forward too and not dread going to work. I’ve started to lose my voice because you have to yell a lot in the kitchen when you need food or are carrying something hot, I’ve never been very good at yelling or being loud that way… new skill I guess.

Epcot

Tuesday was my first training day IN EPCOT, we arrived and went into a classroom, watched some PowerPoints on what Epot’s theme is as a Disney Park which is to promote innovation, culture, and diversity. The park is separated into two sections Future World where I work in the Electric Umbrella Quick Service Food & Beverage, then The World Showcase where you get to travel through 12 countries. The cast members who work in each of these countries have to be from those locations which makes our guests feel immersed in the authenticity of each unique culture.

epcot-map.jpg

The next part of training was really exciting we got to split up into groups and get a personal tour around Epcot learning about all the attractions and secrets around Future World. We got to see a great example of safety in action when an older lady was running to the bathroom with no shoes on and a security guard was yelling “Mam please don’t run and put on your shoes” while chasing after her and the lady yelled back “I REALLY HAVE TO PEE” quite a good start to the tour I would say. Sadly we didn’t have time to walk through all of the countries but we were able to get onto a water taxi and go around the perimeter of the World Showcase Lagoon to get a closer look.

We then broke off into our roles for the company and I met all the girls I’m going to be working with, we went into costuming and IT’S A HUGE BUILDING with rows and two levels of costumes everywhere. I’m pleased that I get short sleeves and nothing dreadfully extravagant like Caroline 😉

IMG_9400.JPG

We got to go to our location the Electric Umbrella and it was a big place for sure with indoor, outdoor, and upstairs seating. We did some online training and got to head home.

Caroline was waiting for me when I got home and we headed to Hollywood Studios with some new friends, one from France and one from China, very nice people and it’s different to interact with people with different habit and cultural norms.

P8160667.JPG

ALSO the best thing happened to me and I was overly excited for sure but Caroline and I went into the shops and got some new Mickey ears and I grabbed a mystery pin, there were about 15 characters I could’ve got on the pin including my favorite Marie (which I was hoping for). Here are the ears we bought!

IMG_9399

IMG_9382

Today I had the day off and met a fellow Epcot worker from New Zealand so we went to Animal Kingdom with him and his two roommates from Texas while Caroline was at work and getting her costume. It was a fun trip meeting and getting to know them while doing a scavenger hunt where you earn badges for identifying animals and learning languages. Also when I went to go get a sweet tea the cast member working there said the sweet tea isn’t very good and I can have it for FREE! I was shocked and wanted to make sure he was ok with it like really? but he’s like yeah it’s on me don’t worry. Afterwards my friend Jeff informed me that that was his way on hitting on me but I looked at it as a way of making my day more magical in Disney. The picture below are our names in Hindi from India!

IMG_9403

I came back and all of us roommates headed on over to a fast food place called Freddy’s Steak Burgers and it has amazing burgers and fries!

IMG_9404

After our bellies were full and bank account lost a little hard earned cash we went to Downtown Disney for a short amount of time and I got my magic band. Here in Disney World it’s pretty high tech and we have touch pads where you touch your band to because it syncs on your park ticket, fast passes, room key and credit card (only if you’re staying at a Disney Resort/Hotel).

Jasmine of course ❤ night everyone I start my training tomorrow at Epcot in my full UNIFORM!

Weekend/Monday Update!

My oh my what an eventful past couple days it has been, lets go back in time to Saturday!

I finally got to Traditions, and after a long 5 hours I received my ears, name tag, and blue park access card to get into all of the parks! (on the down side my black pencil skirt ripped in the back and I’m not sure when or how it happened… not sure who saw that) BUT we got to go on a tour through THE UNDERGROUND TUNNEL SYSTEM in MAGIC KINGDOM it was epic and we just happened to see my favorite princess JASMINE ❤ coming down the elevator from a recent show or meet and greet. And we got to wear these ear pieces while we went on a little tour through the park, I felt pretty official.

IMG_9372

IMG_9371

IMG_9333

I hurried back so Caroline and I could head to the parks, we went to magic kingdom… but not having a car down here is a bummer it took us so long to even get to the parks, about 2 hours or more :/ But we made the most of it, got some pictures and were able to ride Space Mountain and get some food before we left!

IMG_9373.JPG

P8130395.JPG

P8130389.JPG

It also took a while to get home that night because of the … yup you guessed it BUS! I’m really getting the college away from luxury life when it comes to transportation down here!

Caroline and I don’t like to waist any time, we got up at 8am even though we went to bed at like 2 am, but we had to get to Animal Kingdom early and continue on to other parks! We entered the park and then rode Mt. Everest in Asia which was AWESOME, highly recommended, it goes backwards. We also got on Kali River Rapids for a nice cool down, it’s a lot more fun that Grizzly River ride in California Adventure.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

THEN WE FOUND MY FAVORITE DONALD!

P8140436.JPG

Then Pocahontas, and she was kind of weird and made us stand even more awkwardly so we won’t include that one! Next was the Festival of  The Lion King show, it was pretty authentic with songs from the movies, monkey acrobats, talented singers, and great stage performance all around. We just happened to bump into Tarzan who really acted like an ape and was the most awkward “human being” to talk to, although Caroline thought he was attractive (I don’t see it).

P8140461.JPG

Kids meals are the way to go in Disney Parks, you get fruit, a drink, veggies, and protein for a small price. As you can tell Caroline was enjoying it…

IMG_9391.JPG

I highly recommend what we did next which is the Kilimanjaro Safari Excursion you ride in a real vehicle and go off roading through a jungle/sahara/desert environment throughout the ride. Overall Animal Kingdom is an awesome park and there’s some really cool animals, rides, and shows but it doesn’t take a full day to do everything. We then headed over to Hollywood Studios and rode the Rockin’ Roller Coaster (my favorite thrill ride out of all the parks) but on the way over we got hit by a typical Florida afternoon storm and got drenched.

Next up, enter if you dare into the Tower of Terror!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In Florida you’ve gotta make sure you stay hydrated and fueled for long day at the parks, what better way than a classic Mickey Pretzel. Below we got buttons to celebrate becoming official cast members!

IMG_9394.JPG

We then watched one of the coolest shows in Hollywood Studios… the Indiana Jones Light, Camera, and Action stunt show. It’s not what I remembered from 10 years ago, they actually are filming stunt scenes and they’ll cut the scene then explain how they did it and behind the scenes process for filming movies, really made me appreciate the business and think about positions in those fields.

I didn’t know that they added a Pixar section in Hollywood Studios but check it out y’all!

Moving on to another park all in one day because Caroline and I never stop go go going! We headed over to Magic Kingdom and got some cliché pictures in front of the castle (there’s more in my Facebook album)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We finished off the night watching the fireworks and headed home, overall a very long, productive magical day!

Disneys Boardwalk

Yesterday I went in around lunch time to see if my background check came in from Washington and after the front desk chatted with casting they discovered that I had and I was so excited, I double checked and asked if I was good to go to traditions, they said yes. So I came back and Megan, Kaitlyn, and I all got dressed in our business attire and headed to Disney University.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Come to find while I was checking into my classroom that my name wasn’t on the list, so I had to go talk to this head guy, then to find my name was still on the “not cleared” list, they informed me that I was clear but it takes Disney an extra day to process and I’ll probably be scheduled for tomorrow (today, Saturday). Frustrated and very warm in my dress clothes I had to get back on a bus to take me home.

Caroline was home so we caught up on how her traditions went then she took a nap because she had to get up super early, while I did some laundry and watched TV. We then made our first dinner here together!!!! Although it looks like dog food it’s a lasagna velveeta hamburger combination.

IMG_9331.JPG

I FINALLY got a call from Disney and they told me my traditions is today at 2:30 so I’ll FINALLY get to go into the parks. Kaitlyn and Megan were still at their traditions and Caroline said she wasn’t going to leave me since we were previously planning on going to the parks later, I LOVE CAROLINE. So we headed to the disney boardwalk resort hotel (and got off at the right bus stop)

This resort is very very unique and you feel like you’re at an authentic boardwalk in California, we then headed toward Epcot and watched the firework show from the outside, and on our way back say the firework show from Hollywood Studios!

P8120363.JPG

P8120367.JPG

Even though we couldn’t go in to the parks like Kaitlyn and Megan we had a great time at the boardwalk exploring and getting even more excited for when we can go in TODAY! Here’s what the inside of the hotel looked like.

After killing the bus schedule and coming home in no time we folded some laundry and headed to bed.

Bad News on a Good Day

Never a dull day with my awesome roommates, today Caroline and I headed over to the premium outlets that are a short 10 min. walk away if that. We got me some clear earrings because WDW doesn’t allow second ear piercings, then we headed over to the food court and went in some shops.

We then met up with Kaitlyn and Megan as we headed to see where Caroline and Kaitlyn work. They’re at Disney hotel resort food places. We first went to Kaitlyn’s at the Caribbean Beach Resort!

P8110155.JPG

P8110156.JPG

P8110172.JPG

We then went to Port Orleans and saw Caroline’s work area, she made me go ask people who worked there what she would be doing and because I did she bought me a Jasmine smashed penny.

P8110173.JPG

We finished the rounds by going to the NICEST HOTEL RESORT I’ve ever been to (and my parents have spoiled me and I have seen some great ones) we went to the one and only Grand Floridian!!! The pure white buildings and picked fences, the marble floors and chandeliers, everything head to toe of this beautiful resort was clean and elegant.

P8110270.JPG

Then I said YES… also didn’t see that coming.

P8110266.JPG

Oh and Megan married us, everyone saw that coming!

And after all the fun and games and reception I received some bad news… apparently I’m a criminal and my background check hasn’t come back. KIDDING but really my background check hasn’t come back because STUPID Washington state takes 4 days to process a fingerprint background check and i got it done around 6pm on Monday, so as of right now I’m not allowed to go to Traditions tomorrow morning and get my cast member ID that lets me get into the park and my name tag and disney training. I’m eagerly waiting for a call to say I’m cleared and praying it comes tomorrow morning before my scheduled traditions time at 2:30. Keep me in your prayers and hopeful all comes in fast so I can start my training and making money and don’t get left behind on going to the parks.

Public Transportation

Yesterday Caroline and I headed down to our complex pool which was beautiful and so relaxing, it’s pretty hot and humid here all the time so there’s nice ledges where you can tan and be in the water at the same time.

IMG_9310.JPG

Afterwards my roommates all had an housing program meeting at 3, mine was later at 5. Here they told us about all the safety procedures, rules and how easy you can get kicked out.We also have our very our market only at our complex (how convenient) it’s called the grid, a nice little shop for some food, toiletries etc. There are so many awesome things to do and they’re literally on our campus, like beach volleyball, basketball, tennis, ping pong, soccer fields, and pools. Disney also put on special events like pool parties, movie nights, trips to the beach, sporting event trips, and grocery bingo. I also got my address so if you’d like that just contact me!

Our plan for afterwards was to ride the bus to the Boardwalk resort (there are like 32 separate resorts!!!) it’s insane how much is down here and how spread out it is. The boardwalk resort has some shops, food, and you can see the Epcot fireworks. Well we were on this bus for a while because of all of the stops and traffic down here, but they don’t announce which stop is what you kind of have to know! Soooooo after an hour long bus ride we saw the boardwalk stop slip away and the bus’s next stop was all the way back to our apartment complex. We ended up just getting Chick-Fil-A and heading to bed, hopefully today we will have better luck getting around and exploring the resorts!
